December 1st, 2018 by Deacon

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
