Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt.
