Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
March 6th, 2025 by Deacon

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
