Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
