NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
