[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
