Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
