Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
