No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
October 6th, 2023 by Deacon

Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked betting on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play countless hours and don’t win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might improve his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would often compete against one another. Howard had access into some of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
